Today is the big day! Google is launching its new mobile friendly update. This new update is designed to ensure a better experience for users of mobile devices like cell phones. Why would Google do this? Well the short answer is that over 50% of all web browsing is now done on mobile phones. That means if your website isn’t mobile-friendly, you’ve only got a 50% chance of even reaching potential clients. This new algorithm will potentially give a ranking boost to mobile-friendly pages in Google’s mobile search results and could potentially drop the ranking of non-mobile friendly websites.

Bottom line! If you want to play with the big boys, your site must be mobile friendly. So what are some of the features of a mobile friendly website? Well, for starters the page and the text must be readable without zooming. The days of site pinch and zoom are over. The content must automatically adapt and to the size of the users screen so they don’t have to scroll horizontally. Links must be spaced far enough apart so that users don’t accidentally click the wrong link and of course, don’t use of software that isn’t common on mobile devices, like Flash Animation.

And what does Google give you if you update your site. Ta Da… The coveted mobile friendly badge. Oh yeah, and more customers visiting your site.
